I love bad anime. I really do, but some of them just crossed the line from bad to being plain boring. Boring anime is what I truly dread.
Speaking of which there is such anime in this season; “Date A Live” is one of them. The show itself is not so bad to the eye, but the plot and storytelling went full retard, nobody should go full retard with those aspect ever. The concept is that the protagonist must date skimpy clad valkyrie-ish big boobs girl which will eventually exterminate all mankind if the protagonist failed. Well, the concept of the show itself oozed bollox. The first three episodes contains incest femdom imouto, cliche classmate turns protector, big boobies skimpy clad valkyrian-jin with a 3 years old brain. It just a quick cash in on otakus and this practice is downright disgusting.
It’d be lovely to just drop it and not see or hear about it ever again in my life. This is just downright awful.
Date A Live
There is an alternative dose for your otakuness. Try “Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii wake ga nai.”. It’s a given that you must watch the first season to catch up on the story, but why not? Oreimo is a good anime both on visual and sound front. The story is also quite light heart and good pacing keep the show interesting throughout the whole season.
The show itself portray otakuness without being a disgusting cheap cash grab.
Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii wake ga nai.
Oreimo. is not the only sequel in this season. There is also “Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S” which is a sequel to “Toaru Kagaku no Railgun” if you’re in for all girl sci-fi action, I highly recommend catching up to the current episode now.
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S
If you’re a mech mania, This season is going to be quite busy for you with “Suisei no Gargantia” and “Valvrave the Liberator” as the better mech show of the season. I personally prefer Gargantia over Valvrave due to mech design and more interesting cast, but both of them is worth checking out even if you’re not a mech mania.
Suisei no Gargantia
Other than mech and otaku side there is also many love comedy anime this season with “Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru” and “Hataraku Maou-sama!” on the spotlight. The story of OreGairu revolved around the introvert (no friend) protagonist and perfectionist (no friend) heroine which is quite fun to watch. On the other hand, Maou first episode is full of bollox, but if you can put up with it. It will be quite a breezy sail from there. By the way, there is also “Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko” which is a nice warm fuzzy love comedy. It’s bloody great. highly recommended!
However, If you’re into more dramatic and dark stuff, “Shingeki no Kyojin” (Attack on Titans) is quite interesting, If you can withstand the gore and extreme brutal violence. Well, you should if you’re into dark stuff anyway. The first episode is bloody brilliant, If they can keep the tension of the first episode throughout the series that would be great.
Shingeki no Kyojin
Personally, I find this season to be quite lacking in term of innovation. There is “Aku no Hana” which try to do things differently, in 3D realistic-ish style, but the execution is so poor to the point that it not worth doing. If they fix the crappy shader and go all out with the realist approach. That would be quite nice to watch indeed.
It’s a shame that idea that has so much potential has been execute so half-assed like this.
Aku no Hana
There is also some other shows that I didn’t mention because It is not my type or not interesting enough, don’t forget to check those out too.
